Laurence Layne is a Florida State licensed massage therapist (#MA10746). He began his journey as a 1989 graduate of the Atlanta School of Massage, Atlanta, Georgia, where he received training in Sports Massage, Polarity, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Swedish Massage, Lymphatic Massage and Deep Tissue Therapy.
Laurence Layne has since had hundreds of classroom hours of training as an herbalist and founded Healing Waters Clinic in 1992. He has logged thousands of hours of personal experience and study in relation to herbal healing and has seen thousands of people in his role as an herbalist. His clinic has hired dozens of people over the years and maintains around 10 employees.
Some of Laurence’s most noteworthy educational attainments include graduation from The East West School of Herbology and recognition as an East West clinical herbalist (certification). He as attended many regional and national herb conferences and has been a presenter at two conferences. He has been a member of the American Herbalist Guild since 1996 and published two articles in the Guild Journal.
Laurence uses holistic assessment methods from traditional systems to determine appropriate herbs for his patients. This includes taking the pulse, looking at the tongue, abdominal palpation, and asking questions. He has wide-ranging experience with supplements, natural remedies, holistic diets such as vegetarianism and macrobiotics, and the naturopathic practices of detoxification and hydrotherapy.
‘THE CHALLENGE’
Reviving an aging database of products and correcting a large number of issues preventing online distribution.
While Healing Waters Clinic was enjoying stable business for decades, cracks were beginning to develop in the foundation of their online presence. Laurence wanted to move the website over to a new server, and he felt dissatisfied with the functionality of healingwatersclinic.com overall.
As an herb shop, there was also an extensive library of products that needed to be properly categorized and labelled in order to be tracked through point of sale software as well as sold online. Many of these products had gone untracked for years, some even forgotten about until that point.
Finally, despite their longstanding presence and authority in the world of herbalism, they were not achieving their true potential in search results. The domain authority and search engine of the website was poor, and thusly they had poor click through rates, high bounce rates and abysmal online sales. Laurence Layne needed many of these key features of his business rebuilt from the ground up and had poor experiences with previous technical support.

Creating a new digital foundation, rebuilding it all from the ground up
When Laurence approached me with this task, it started out as a small goal. Just mitigate problems in server migration in order to save money over time. However, we quickly found that the problems were much larger than expected. Many products that were in store weren’t available online, and there were issues with updating the inventory so many sales were being lost or not properly tracked.
After many requested revisions, I had finally created the digital storefront that they needed. Healingwatersclinic.com would at last function correctly on every page. This however was the first step in the grand effort to lasting success.
With the foundation of the website in order, they gave me the information I needed to rebuild their product database from scratch. Every product was given a new upc and sales code in a spreadsheet database so that there would never again be any overlap or missed products. This was of course modular at its core, so it would be easy to expand on or transfer in the future. I also ensured that the shipping features of the backend worked correctly. This ensured that shipping weights were correct, and ensured that each online sale would be able to communicate with the physical store inventory.
Once this database was complete, I crafted the rest of the website around this new dataset. A brand new UX was implemented, each product received a place on the website as well as efficient means for users to find them. Every product and every page received my efforts in improving loading efficiency, and On-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I spearheaded ideas such as including live plant photographs of the herbal products, and enacted a general emphasis on educating new users to further establish their authority.

Healing Waters Clinic maintains a strong presence in the St Augustine Community and in the world of healing at large. The systems I implemented remain in place to this day with few, if any alterations to my initial work. healingwatersclinic.com went from being relatively impossible to find to being top place in local search results for years after completing sitewide SEO efforts. Their extensive storefront features hundreds of products that is intrinsically linked to their storefront point of sale system, allowing for easy tracking of inventory, sales, and net profits from one source. This has not only increased sales online tenfold, but has also facilitated sales in their physical store font. The employees also enjoy a clarified product database, which facilitates efficient labor time.
This was a massive effort on my part, but it is a shining example of the way my skills can help renovate brick and mortar sales as well as a digital presence.
